College Credit Card Application

Credit Card Marketing to College Students
By Tom Tessin
Whether you're new to the college atmosphere or you're just starting out, there are so many things you have to learn when it come to campus, rules, and everything else associated with school. What most college students don't think of when they are attending college are the marketing factors. Companies love to target college students because they generally love to spend the money they either get from their job or their parents. With marketing, there are a few techniques you should look out for and today, I'm going to explain how the credit card companies target the students.
The kiosk stand - I'm sure if you walk on any college campus here in America, you've probably seen that umbrella with the credit card logo on it. A lot of the times, these kiosks will offer an incentive to sign up. It could be anything from a t-shirt to a silly little keychain. Who doesn't like free things, right? The bad part about this is that most students have no idea what they are signing up for. Most students will sign up for the card and have no idea what the card even entails, this is a huge no-no because as any adult knows now, you want to do as much research as possible when it comes to applying for a credit card.

The free lunch - Credit card companies used to do this a lot of campus where they would offer you a free lunch voucher in exchange for your information on an application. Most campuses have since banned this technique because as mentioned above, almost no college student will turn down free food and will do almost anything to get it. Since then, the incentives such as free lunches have dwindled away but you may see this technique on college campuses still.
Speeches - Most colleges will generally offer speeches sponsored by major companies. Here and there, you will see a speech sponsored by a major bank or credit card company. Sometimes the speech can generally be informative, but sometimes it may be a brain washing technique to get you to buy into their card. After the speech, you may find that there will be a representative around to have you fill out applications.
There are so many different marketing strategies that credit card companies' use. It's important that you do your research on a particular credit card before you actually apply for one on the spot just because you're getting a free burrito, this is a huge no-no. When it comes to a card, there are so many different kinds out there that cater to a college student and you may find that the card you're getting isn't meant for you. Cards generally carry fees that may be hidden and this is important that you look out for them. It's also important that you're able to look at rewards, etc. Some students feel rushed when they fill out an application because all they are thinking about is that free burrito. The next time you see that kiosk, you may want to think twice before you fill out that application.

What to do if online college application won’t accept your credit card?
How am I supposed to pay to send in my online college application, when today, is the deadline, for University of oregon, if they will not accept American Express but they will accept every other credit card such as Discover, Mastercard, and Visa?
It may have made your score a tad lower if they have already inquired into your credit worthiness. This application may or may not make a difference one way or the other.
Unless you have had an influx of inquiries, then my answer would be “No”.
If i know my future job salary, can I put that on my new credit card application?
I am applying for a new credit card and i am recent college graduate. I know what my salary is going to be for my job starting in a month. Can i put that on my credit card application instead of what i am making at a part time job right now?? please help.
There is no such thing as a co-signer on a credit card. You can sign up as the primary account holder, and your father can sign up as the secondary. But that means its his credit card as well, and he will be responsible financially for the balance too. He can also close the account, or make any changes to it.
I applied for a college credit card for citi but I want to cancel the application will that harm my credit?
They asked for additional information that I don’t have.
How does my dad co-sign on my credit card application?
I’m 19 and in college but don’t have a credit card yet, but when I applied they turned me town, so I guess I need a parent to co-sign on it. But it doesn’t say anything about that on the application? What am I supposed to do about that?
Not without a pay stub, W2 ore CR Bureau report showing that income.
Will just dump as attempted fraud
First of all, they should have revealed to you that you can contact the credit bureau/agencies they used in making their decision. Those places have to give you a copy of your credit report & you can see for yourself what is going on.
If you have never had any type of credit at all in the past, you might try putting $500 or $1000 in a savings account (and not touching it). Use it as collateral/security for a loan for the same amount. Make payments on that loan ON TIME. When you get it paid off, you have gained the responsibility of making payments, a decent credit history/score and you’ve gained an “emergency fund” in that savings account.
sometimes they will allow u to submit the application online but then send in the $ with your high school transcripts and test scores from your guidance office at ur school (if ur in High school). if they want the payment today and wont wait for the check then ask a friend or family member to charge it on their card and give and pay them back in cash on the spot.
if u cant find anyone to do that then ur out of luck. this is why people say not to leave things to the last minute…
Why Citibank declined my credit card application??!?
I feel Citibank’s customer service is poor. I just applied a “Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Visa® Card for College Students” credit card online, on Citibank’s official website. They sent me an letter weeks later that says my application was denied. I called the number they told me and the officer said it’s because of that i dont have a high enough credit history. How could i build credit history when i was just applying my first credit card? ? !
and the information they offered to me was very confusing. it doesnt say anything about the requirements you have to meet when i was applying for the credit card. i said i’d like to do this in person again the lady in the phone told me to go to branch banks.
when i went to citibank branch bank, i was told they don’t do anything with credit cards on branch banks. wth…
getting mad of them. will this hurt my credit in the future?
they say that my app. was scored and evaluated by a computer system. and i can get a free copy of my credit report if i respond within 60 days. but i do not know what should i write to them in the letter.
to thinkcreditcard: yah i almost fall asleep with their pls-wait-for-a-second music.
